SSIAP officers: fire safety and assistance to people
In a public-access building (ERP), fire safety is not optional: the regulations set out, depending on the building's type and category, the fire safety team you are required to maintain. We supply SSIAP fire safety officers for a regular post or to reinforce a one-off event, combined with security duties where the role allows.
SSIAP 1 and SSIAP 2
Qualified officers and team leaders with up-to-date refresher training, matching the complement required by your fire safety register.
Assistance to people
First aid, someone feeling unwell in a crowd, a person stuck in a lift: SSIAP officers are trained for this too.
Event reinforcement
A concert in a sports hall, a trade show in a multi-purpose venue: SSIAP reinforcement required under article GN 6, for the duration of the event.

An SSIAP officer's duties
A well-run fire safety post means an up-to-date register, a properly operated system, and an evacuation that goes smoothly on the day it happens.
Operating the fire safety system
Staffing the fire safety control room: verifying detection alerts, resetting the system, following procedures, and liaising with the building operator.
Hot work permits
Issuing and tracking hot work permits for jobs involving naked flames or sparks, with monitoring during and after the work.
Evacuation and guiding emergency services
Directing evacuations, assembly points, welcoming and guiding firefighters, regular drills.
Assistance to people
First aid while waiting for emergency services, dealing with someone feeling unwell, a fall, or a person trapped.
Register and incident log
Recording events, checks and drills in the fire safety register; reporting back to the building operator.

How this fits with security
An SSIAP officer whose presence at the post is mandatory cannot also staff an entrance. We keep SSIAP posts and security posts separate, even when officers hold both qualifications.

Is an SSIAP officer mandatory in our building?

Does an SSIAP officer need a CNAPS licence?
Not if they are assigned exclusively to fire safety duties. As soon as they also carry out surveillance or screening duties, the professional licence becomes mandatory. Our dual-role officers hold both qualifications.
Can the same officer handle both fire safety and security?
Yes, if they hold both qualifications and your building's fire safety regulations allow this dual role for the post concerned. A mandatory SSIAP post must always remain staffed, so we keep the posts separate on the schedule, even where the officers' profiles overlap.
How much does an SSIAP officer cost?
As a guide, €24 to €30 per hour excl. VAT for an SSIAP 1 and €30 to €45 per hour excl. VAT for an SSIAP 2 in 2026, before night, Sunday and bank-holiday premiums. The quote specifies the level assigned to each post. See our price guide.
